James Steele-Sargent – Profile summary

James began his career in landscaping at an early age, helping Alan at the Chelsea Flower Show as a schoolboy, going on to college gaining an HND in Horticultural Marketing, then working as a landscaper with Alan’s company until 1995, when he formed  Arun Landscapes.

Arun joined the Association of Professional Landscapers in 1997, and James joined the APL Committee soon afterwards, and is currently the longest serving member of that Committee (seventeen years, including Past Chairman), actively working with cluster groups and any other APL business, especially reference training and marketing.

James is a member of The Chartered Institute of Horticulture (MIHort) and The Institute of Groundsmanship. He works closely with members of The Society of Garden Designers, regularly acting as Guest Speaker at their events (and jointly with the APL), and at The Robin Templar-Williams Garden Design School at various venues. He was Guest Speaker at a major new Seminar initiative in Moscow during 2002/3, talking on marketing and networking techniques in the European Marketplace.

Working with Alan, he has helped on a number of BBC and other television series including Old Garden, New Gardener with Gay Search and Geoff Hamilton, and The Terrace with Mike Reid, plus a number of videos/dvds with Bradstone and Do It All Ltd, building sets and garden features.

Arun Landscapes became a Limited Company, and began to undertake more and more complex garden builds, including several million pound plus gardens, winning a number of awards (currently over seventy) including Supreme Landscaper of The Year in 2009 with the Association of Professional Landscapers and Horticulture Week.
